Ten signs your aging parents are in need of help

 

  1. Missed medication.
    Pills might be lying on the kitchen floor, or they are running out of pills before the next prescription can be refilled.
     
  2. An empty fridge.
    Sometimes food has gone bad. Your parents tell you they shop for groceries but they’re actually haven’t been there for weeks.
     
  3. The piling mail.
     Opening and responding to daily mail can become overwhelming because of deteriorating eye sight or it was the responsibility of the now-deceased spouse. This can result in overdue bills and other creditor issues.
     
  4. The lost walker
    Items become lost, there a risk of wandering away from home and increasing later returns from regular walks. Difficulty locating familiar places in their own home as the bedroom or bathroom.
     
  5. Telling excuses.
    They don’t want to walk because of a painful foot, actually they are afraid of running into someone they can’t remember. They don’t want to take a shower in the morning; they always bath in the evening.
     
  6. Piles of laundry
    Changes in housekeeping may occur because it is too difficult or tiring.
     
  7. The torn shower curtain
    Damage to the bathroom fixtures such as shower curtains, loose towel bars or window sills indicate your parent is using these items as support, a potential danger if they lose their balance.
     
  8. The unshaved face and growing toenails
    These are the first signs that some assistance is needed. These signs can range from unkempt hair and body odor, wearing the same unclean clothes or wearing clothes inappropriate for the weather of backwards.
     
  9. Unfinished obligations
    as maintaining the garden. Clay pots and soil have been moved, but nothing is accomplished. 
     
  10. Mysterious dents on the car.
    Not knowing the direction in their hometown or driving very slowly.
